Keeping Perspective
Dreams are important, but unless they become goals and plans; then they do little more than make you constantly unhappy about the present. If you dream too much you miss the now. If you wish for a future too strongly, you are miserable today.
Goals have always been a challenge Great dreams and ideas aren't a problem, but going the long haul to making them a reality is difficult. It gets so frustrating and disheartening to work at something day after day without achieving what you are after. The freequent setbacks and hurdles are exhausting.
A Jimmy Buffett lyric plays over and over in my mind; "I've made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast. It was never meant to last."
Regrets are no more productive than too much dreaming either. You can't live in the past or the future. That's much easier said than done, since the present isn't always much fun. It's the past we remember fondly and the future we have hope for. Interesting, how hindsight and foresight always seem to be more positive than now. I suppose if they weren't then we wouldn't have any perseverence
We should never stop dreaming. We just have to remember to plan to get there; and pay attention to today along the way.
